Happy Wednesday friends! Today’s lesson, alike all my other WUW lessons, is of utmost importance when traveling to a French speaking country. These too were some of the very first phrases I repeatedly uttered throughout the frosty weeks of January ‘08. This will help you on the streets, in the restaurant, throughout the metro; lending itself to portray a more polite & savvy world traveler.
” desole ” or ” je suis desole “
“sorry” or “I am sorry“
(pronounced: day zoh lay - ‘zhuh swee day zoh lay‘)
” pardon “
“excuse me” as in to get by someone in the super market or metro
(pronounced: ‘pahr dohN‘)
“ excusez moi “
also meaning “excuse me” but this time used to get someone’s attention, such as a waiter
(pronounced: ‘ehk skew zay mwah‘)
DISCLAIMER : I don’t speak French well at all, IF at all….. all WUW words are those that I have found help me communicate on a daily basis in France and the definitions are purely out of my recognition of the word and how I have experienced them used
